Pentagram & Free
I hear a bit of Free here and there in Pentagram's early stuff. Probably more towards the raw edge of the Tons of Sobs material. But every once in a while you stumble upon a Penta-gem like "Mark My Words" or "Windmills and Chimes" which might owe something to Fire and Water. Paul Kossoff's solos bleed with emotion, and he never overplayed. If only he wised up... He isn't the only hero of mine to flush his life down the toilet on drugs. Some old addicts, for unexplicable reasons, just go on living like cockroaches after a nuclear war it seems... Pentagram had a lot of tunes that--to me at least--fall into the "less is more" category that I admire Free for (like say "Target").
Paul Rodgers... my fave singer next to Glenn Hughes (in Trapeze)! And Andy Fraser is in my top five fave bassists!
