Conceived by guitarist Victor Griffin and bassist Lee Abney c. 1980, they were eventually joined by Pentagram members Bobby Liebling and Joey Hasselvander. Death Row changed their name to Pentagram (US) in 1983.

An "Open Letter" from Victor Griffin
In response to some inaccurate news circulating recently...apparently Black Widow Records has released news that there will be a total of three new DEATH ROW releases coming out on their label.
The only thing I have personally, and contractually agreed to at this time with Black Widow Records is one new DEATH ROW album containing live recordings, and never before released demos. Everything else is speculation, and has yet to be fully discussed, much less given consent to release.
I trust their announcement was either taken out of context, or just an honest mistake on their part. I'm not saying these other releases are completely out of the question at some point, they just haven't technically been on the table of discussion.
